Stained concrete vs concrete coating

Published Jun 30, 2026

Two different finishes that work for different goals.

Stained concrete is a transparent product that penetrates the slab and brings out the natural texture, veining, and color variations of the concrete. The finish looks like concrete because it is concrete. We use Direct Colors ColorWave for this. Best for spaces where you want the floor to look natural and one-of-a-kind.

Concrete coating is a film-forming product that covers the slab with a uniform color. The natural texture and veining of the concrete is gone, replaced by a single solid look. Best for spaces where you want consistency, where the slab has visible defects you want to mask, or where you want a specific brand color.

Both require the same level of prep. The difference is how the finished floor looks. We can show you samples on the estimate visit.
