Maintaining a stained concrete patio

Published Jun 30, 2026

Stained and sealed concrete is one of the easier outdoor surfaces to maintain, but a few habits keep it looking good and extend the life of the finish.

Sweep regularly. Dirt, sand, and grit are abrasive. Walking and sliding furniture across a gritty surface wears the sealer down faster than anything else. A weekly sweep makes a real difference over years.

Rinse seasonally. A garden hose rinse a few times a year washes off pollen, dust, and salt residue before they build up.

Use felt pads on furniture. Outdoor furniture dragged across a sealed concrete surface scratches it. Felt pads or rubber feet protect the finish.

Avoid harsh chemicals. Bleach, ammonia, and acidic cleaners can damage the sealer. Mild soap and water handles almost any cleaning job. For tougher stains, ask us what to use on the finish we applied.

Watch for traffic patterns. If you start to see the sealer wearing in the high-traffic spots, that is the early sign it is time to recoat. Catching it early means a lighter prep and a smaller job.
